‘Snakeskin’ by Charlie Isaac Murray

Content warning: body dysphoria.

Snakeskin

I lay in the bathtub
mirror turned away
so I can’t see my body
Peeling dead skin
from the soles of my feet
And I think of a snake
shedding its skin
death and rebirth
And wish I could shed
this body
and be reborn
still me
