Bathing as Self Care

The 15 second anti-wrinkle face cream ad that plays at the end of the bedtime yoga video is not a shock but still, I didn’t expect it to be so loud.

I’ve never known how to properly relax. The closest I’ve come is the few times I have almost fainted in the bath, Lifting my own shaking arms out of the steam, (s)lain still wet in the cool embrace of floor tiles just breathing just focusing on breathing.

Nothing in life seems as forgiving as the toilet floor, nothing in life seems as harsh as waiting head down in a bathmat.

Lore White is a nonbinary artist based on Dharawal land in Wollongong NSW. They are the Founder & EIC of Baby Teeth, a founding member of Society City, and co-editor of Heroines Anthology & Writing Prize since its inception.
