‘Why I Was Really Crying’ by Jack Cariad Leon

Content warning: Grief, death.

Why I Was Really Crying

We went by the street of my childhood home
where I used to sit in the backyard and my mum
would make me flower crowns —
bracelets and necklaces of white clover blossoms
and it occurred to me — half the twin memories
that my mother had with my little sister
a Pisces, one half of the two,
her life like mine, family the same,
a kind of counterpart like a Gemini spin —
were lost forever, along with her mind
when she died last year.

I am only slowly getting over
the largest slump of artistic creation
in my life — now, almost a year after
my first little muse died.

About the artist

Jack Cariad Leon (he/him) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Brisbane, Australia.

He aims to have a body of work that acts as an articulated self portrait – pieces that may mean nothing by themself, but begin to create a larger picture when considered altogether.

He believes the influence of inspiration to be crucial, and is passionate about the work of other creatives.
