Drawing of a long-necked person with a green face and leaves for cheeks and hair. The following poem is spread throughout the image: Within myself, a new seed grows an undiscovered genus climbs the trellis of me. Creeping vines under my navel, between my lips and nose, he wraps himself around my larynx, coaxing gently. In symbiosis, fresh air down to our toes.

Within myself, a new seed grows

an undiscovered genus climbs the trellis of me.

Creeping vines under my navel, between my lips and nose,

he wraps himself around my larynx, coaxing gently.

In symbiosis, fresh air down to our toes.

About the artist:

Pronouns: they/them.
Bio: Nikki is a 23 year old Brisbane sewer rat who makes bad art to spite The Man. They can be found on instagram at @NICNEVINN.

About the art:

to scared:Β I wanted this piece to combine the fragility of growing up a confused genderweird child with the powerful feeling of coming into one’s own mind and body. I had a dream when I first started to medically transition that I was walking along the main road near my childhood home, naked save for underwear, holding a knife in each hand, and nobody was brave enough to bother me. I consider myself very lucky to feel that power and pride in my waking hours also.

grows: Inspired by all the new hair I’m growing and all the new plants I’ve filled my new house with, I wrote grows as an expression of the joy this year has brought me, and the quiet comfort of change. Testosterone has shaped my body in new ways, but also shaped my mindset towards existing within that body, and this is my love poem to that chemical.
